In March 2010, Dr. Gangyi Zhou laid the foundation for GMEP Engineers. The firm’s primary focus was on engineering consulting services, specializing in HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing design, fire sprinkler system design, building acoustics, and PV system design. This ambitious venture took shape during the challenging economic recession, setting the stage for a remarkable journey.
What started as a one-man, home-based company rapidly transformed into a thriving firm within just 14 months. Driven by a relentless work ethic and a dedication to exceptional service, GMEP Engineers expanded its ranks to include three talented engineers. The firm’s portfolio flourished with a diverse array of projects, including a 40,000 square foot bowling center in Chino Hill, utility design for Bulkhead replacement in Newport Beach, dental offices, executive offices, retails, gyms, gas stations, research labs, restaurants, and luxury houses. The firm’s rapid growth and project successes underscore the profound expertise and unwavering commitment that define GMEP Engineers.
DR. GANGYI ZHOU
Dr. Gangyi (Gary) Zhou, PhD, PE is the founder and the president of GMEP Engineers. He has extensive knowledge and experience on electrical, mechanical and structural engineering. He had been working in the academic field for over 10 years and then switched to the building industry. He has over 20 peer reviewed publications and holds over 5 patents. He founded GMEP Engineers in late 2009 and grew this company from a one-man company to a company with over 50 full-time engineers. Now, the GMEP engineers handle over 500 projects a year and serves both residential and commercial trades.
Dr. Gangyi (Gary) Zhou doesn’t like the way other the engineering consulting firms run their business. He believes the engineering consulting firms should not only root on the interpretation of building codes but also should stand in front of new technologies. The consulting firm should be a bridge to introduce the new technologies to the construction trade. Under this impassion, he founded the innovative building energy control (IBEC) in 2016 and put resources to develop new devices to help the construction trade. He leads IBEC and developed over 6 products, i.e a lighting control device, a HVAC zoning system, an air scrubber, a HRV system and a solar power station. He setup the manufacturing facility in Costa Mesa such that those IBEC inventions can be made in the USA.
Dr. Gangyi (Gary) Zhou likes to work with young talents to do real work. He trust bright future is based on intelligence and hard work.
